Working on an Impactful Project
Alex Ubieta / Studiothink / Designer & Video Editor
Studiothink is a web-forward design agency rooted in creating innovative solutions that help you stick out and ensure you stick to the most authentic version of yourself. They specialize in branding, marketing, and web design and are devoted to creating bold work that feels bespoke to their clients and that feels one of a kind and stands the test of time.
During this practicum I was able to work alongside one of my close peers, and we were both able to delegate and take on tasks together. We worked together and with the Studiothink team to develop video assets for their project on human trafficking, as well as helping with some of the print assets like billboards and bus shelter posters that would be up in Vancouver, launching just ahead of the FIFA World Cup.
One of the biggest strengths of this experience was being able to contribute to a campaign that felt meaningful and socially relevant. I felt pretty confident in the videos and graphics they had asked us to create. Human trafficking is a difficult and serious topic, and being able to be trusted to help communicate aspects of this through visual storytelling made the work feel more grounded than just another class project. There was a feeling that the content we were creating had the potential to inform and reach people, which also put more pressure on the work itself.
The biggest thing I learned from this was about time management. Working in the industry means faster and tighter deadlines. There was definitely a lot to learn there, not a bad thing but sometimes deadlines can change and expectations to deliver are still there.
Throughout the process, I found myself feeling proud to be a part of this project. It wasn’t just about creating nice visuals, but supporting a larger effort to raise awareness and provide accessible information in a format that people would actually engage in.
I think this experience also helped me to see what work I want to pursue moving forward. I’m most interested in projects that carry purpose and work that connects with design, storytelling and actual real world impacts. This opportunity gave me a clearer sense of direction and what I value in collaborative creative environments.
Overall, this project strengthened my confidence in both my technical abilities
and also my communication skills, and I am glad that I was able to be a part of this project.
